VCA

« Back to Glossary Index

VCA stands for “Voltage Controlled Amplifier.” It is a type of electronic component used in synthesizers, audio processing equipment, and other applications where it is necessary to control the amplitude or volume of an audio signal.

The primary function of a VCA is to adjust the gain (or attenuation) of an input signal based on a separate control voltage. This allows for the dynamic manipulation of audio levels, such as in the creation of tremolo effects, automated volume control, or amplitude modulation in synthesizers. VCAs are essential building blocks in modular synthesizers and are widely used in both analog and digital audio processing circuits.
