Voltage control is a fundamental concept in modular synthesis and refers to the use of voltage signals to control various aspects of an electronic circuit or module. In the context of modular synthesis, voltage control is employed to manipulate parameters such as pitch, amplitude, filter cutoff frequency, modulation depth, and many other aspects of sound generation and processing.
The vast majority of modules have control voltage (CV) inputs, which allow them to receive voltage signals from other modules, such as sequencers, envelopes, LFOs (Low-Frequency Oscillators), or even other sound sources. These voltage signals can be used to modulate the target parameter in real time, creating dynamic and evolving sounds.
Voltage control provides a high level of flexibility and interconnectivity between modules, enabling modular synthesizers to create complex and expressive sounds that can be easily manipulated and controlled.
