In celebration of the upcoming Patch-On // REVERB patch-challenge video we talk about the show, the scene, and the mind behind one of the most important creative outlets in our global modular community.
Sample management isn't fun. Especially, sample management on complex Eurorack modules with minimal screen real estate. Chris Roberts felt that pain and coded an open source, cross-platform app to handle samples and preset files on the Rossum Electro-Music Assimil8or. Let's get to know A8Manager v2.0 and talk to Chris about the software!

There are synth events and then there are Synth Events. If you're in the UK, you get the chance to enjoy the latter this weekend at Machina Bristronica 2023: a one-day festival brimming with activities. You can experience manufacturer booths, live sets, expert discussions, DIY workshops, educational sessions, and even a dedicated stage for DivKid interviews.
Do you like modular synths and wearing clothing? Wild, us too!
From East to West coasts, envelopes to modulation, and even a sneaky manufacturer homage... we're excited to get these out into the world and confusing your friends & family.
This video made us laugh way more than expected. Experience Knobcon in all its self-proclaimed synth nerd glory with 5 second soundbites from ~70 different manufacturers, performers, and one asleep person.
The Water was hazy (see what we did there?) compared to Traffic's great video documentation. Now we get a similar, detailed exploration of J&OT's vector CV generator and how to it flows through patches.
Knobcon was a blast and there are certain people who do excellent work capturing the event atmosphere, all the hardware, and the performances. Props to Jeremy for knocking out this nice ~20 minute recap while suffering from the old C to-the-Vid and covering a serious amount of module news.
We all saw the rows of sliders, LED bokeh, and sheer size of the module Noise Engineering teased up and down Instagram this August. Many people correctly guessed it's a mixer, but they didn't guess it's a 10-channel hybrid analog/digital mixer with full MIDI integration and preset capabilities *and* a 4HP CV expander amusingly named Expando Expandi.
It's nice inside the world of 4/4; you get steady rhythms and a natural foundation for electronic music. If you dare to venture outside those safe confines, there's a world of alternate grooves and interesting polyrhythms. Let's watch as Omri Cohen uses VCV Rack to approach the technique of patching different time signatures in modular.
Building your modular synth is a very personal experience. You can get as tiny as having a solo DATA in a 3D printed enclosure w/ Befaco's ChikiPower. You can dominate a room with something like a Double 21U Artist Series Needham case. Or, you can seek out a well-considered middle ground. Let's check out Domi Fotaro's path down that third road.
